Our Commitment to Prevention Continues.
This month (April 2025), our Prevention Program focuses on Type 2 Diabetes and its consequences.
Type 2 Diabetes Numbers.
In Italy, there are an estimated 4,000,000 diabetic patients. However, an additional 1,500,000 people are affected by the disease but have not yet been diagnosed.
The incidence of Type 2 Diabetes increases with age, rising from approximately 2% of the population under 50 years old to about 9% among those over 50. Men have a slightly higher prevalence.
Consequences of Diabetes:
- Overweight and obesity
- High blood pressure
- Increased blood levels of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, along with reduced HDL cholesterol
- Higher incidence of cardiovascular diseases (such as stroke and heart attack)
- Increased risk of liver diseases (such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease)
- Increased risk of kidney diseases (such as diabetic nephropathy)
- Reduced life expectancy and lower quality of life.
